What is an ImmiCard?
An ImmiCard is issued to certain visa holders who do not have and cannot obtain, a passport recognised by the Australian Government. It serves as an important document for providing evidence of a visa holder's Commencement of Identity (COI) in Australia.
What is the Purpose of the ImmiCard?
Access to Government Services: The ImmiCard helps visa holders access various government services in Australia.
Official Travel Document: It also serves as an official travel document, enabling eligible visa holders to travel to and enter Australia for the first time.
Who can apply for an ImmiCard?
1. Evidence of Immigration Status ImmiCard
This card is available to individuals in Australia who hold specific visa types, including:
Bridging Visa E (subclass 050 or 051) granted to unauthorized maritime arrivals.
Humanitarian Stay (temporary) visa (subclass 449)
Temporary (humanitarian concern) visa (subclass 786)
You can also apply for this ImmiCard if you:
Hold a Document for Travel to Australia (DFTTA) or a Visa Evidence Card (PL056) and need to replace it.
Are an undocumented immigration detainee living in the community without a visa, it is best to consult your case manager.
2. Australian Migration Status ImmiCard
This card is issued to individuals outside Australia who hold Refugee and Special Humanitarian Program visas. It is provided before you travel to Australia and allows you to access government services once you arrive.
