What is Permanent Residency (PR)?
PR is a residency status where a non-citizen is permitted to remain in Australia on a permanent basis. This is not a visa. A permanent visa, permits a permanent resident to enter Australia during the period of the permanent visa. Permanent visas are usually granted for a period of 5 years. On expiry, a permanent resident may continue to remain in Australia, however, if they were to depart Australia on the same expired permanent visa, they will lose that PR status.
