Understand SC482 Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT)

The Skills in Demand (SID) (Subclass 482) visa allows highly skilled individuals to live and work in Australia and contribute to its productivity and growth. For the SID (SC 482) Specialist Skills stream, applicants must meet the Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT).

What is the Specialist Skills Stream for Skills in Demand (SID) (Subclass 482)?

The Specialist Skills stream is tailored for professionals in specific types of occupations in supporting critical capabilities and enhancing the skills of the Australian workforce. Targeted occupations include Engineering managers, Cyber Specialists, and Software Engineers, who are key in the transition to new technologies and practices.

Similarly to the Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT), there is the Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) for SID (Subclass 482) visa applications to meet the annual income level.

What is the Current SSIT?

The current SSIT for the Specialist Skill stream SC482 visa for the financial year from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2025 is at least AUD 135,000. This figure corresponds to the 90th percentile of earnings for all workers in Australia. Thus, applicants applying through this pathway must earn at least this amount to ensure that their salary is not less than that of Australian workers in the same occupation.

What Happens if the SSIT is Not Met?

Meeting the SSIT involves demonstrating that you earn or will earn at least the specified minimum annual income in the nominated occupation. Supporting documents such as payslips, employment contracts, and more can be helpful for your applications. If the SSIT is not met, employers may face various penalties, including being barred from sponsoring additional overseas workers.
