Common Mistakes to Avoid in Your Subclass 482 (Core Skills) Visa Application

The Skills in Demand (SID) Visa offers a pathway for individuals to work and live in Australia temporarily. Applying for the Subclass 482 visa (Core Skills Stream) requires attention to detail. We have compiled a list of common mistakes that applicants make so you can avoid making the same mistakes.

What are the Common Mistakes to Avoid for Skills in Demand (SC 482) - Core Skills Stream?

False and Misleading or Incomplete Documents and Information

Gather all your documents early. You can refer to our SC482 document checklist as a guideline. Ensure all documents are legible, complete and correctly translated (if necessary). Be honest in your visa application, as providing false and misleading information may result in a visa refusal due to Public Interest Criteria (PIC) 4020. Similarly, missing documents or providing incorrect information may cause a visa delay or subject to a visa refusal.

Meet the Visa Requirements and Eligibility

Take the time to read through the visa requirements and eligibility to make sure that you are eligible to apply for the SID (Subclass 482) - Core Skills stream visa. Don’t assume that you meet all the criteria without double-checking. Make sure to check work experience requirements, health and character requirements, etc. For you to read, if secondary applicants have character or health issues, does it affect your SID Visa?

Unaware of Your Visa History

If you previously had a visa refusal or cancellation, you may be required to speak with an Immigration Lawyer as you may be subjected to Section 48 bar, Public Interest Criteria (PIC) 4013 or Public Interest Criteria (PIC) 4014, which may lead to a visa refusal or an invalid visa application

Your Employer May Not Meet the Sponsorship Obligations

Your employer must understand its role and obligations as a Standard Business Sponsor (SBS) in sponsoring the Skills in Demand visa (SC 482). If it does not meet its responsibilities, your visa will also be impacted. For example, the employer may be unable to meet the Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT).

Submit Skills Assessment

Depending on your nominated occupation, you may require a skills assessment from a designated assessing authority. Allow plenty of time for the assessment, as the process may cause delays, which will then delay your entire application.

Meet the English Language Requirement

Ensure that your English Language test is valid for 3 years. Additionally, as immigration law and requirements change frequently, check the current minimum score for your chosen test.
