Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) Eligibility & Process

The Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) visa is a permanent residency (PR) visa for skilled workers who are nominated by an approved Australian employer. The visa allows applicants to live and work in Australia permanently through the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL). There are 3 streams under the ENS visa which are the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream, Direct Entry (DE) Stream and Labour Agreement Stream. 

What are the Common Requirements for All ENS Streams? 

  • The applicant requires a nomination by an approved employer. The employer has to demonstrate that the nomination is for a genuine position and meets the labour market requirements. 

  • The applicant must be under 45 years of age.  

  • The applicant needs to have Competent English, which is equivalent to IELTS 6.0 in all bands. 

  • The applicant must also meet the character and health requirements

  • The nomination has to fulfil the salary threshold of a minimum of AUD 73,150

 

What are the Eligibility Requirements for Subclass 186 ENS Visa?

  • Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream 

  • Direct Entry (DE) Stream 

    • The applicant requires 3 years of relevant full-time work experience in the nominated occupation. 

    • The applicant must have a positive skills assessment to meet the Subclass 186 qualifications, skills, and work experience in the nominated position. 

    • Applicants who are exempted from the skills assessment requirement are also exempted from the work experience requirement. 

  • Labour Agreement Stream 

    • The employer and the applicant must be part of a labour agreement approved by the Australian government. 

    • The applicant must meet the set labour agreement requirements.

What is the ENS (Subclass 186) Visa Application Process?

The application process consists of 2 key stages:  

  • The first stage for the ENS (SC 186) process is nomination. The sponsoring employer submits a nomination for the role to the Department. 

  • The second stage of the ENS visa application process is to ensure that the applicant meets all the eligibility requirements before lodging the application.
