New Pathway for Work Visa Holders to Become a Permanent Resident (PR) in Australia
There are some positive news for Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (subclass 482) and Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457) holders this year who are looking for a pathway to permanent residency (PR). The Minister of Immigration is implementing a new pathway for TSS visa holders to PR. These changes will benefit skilled workers who remained in Australia during the Covid-19 pandemic period to encourage them to stay in Australia permanently.
What are the specific eligibility criteria to qualify for PR?
PR Pathway for 482 Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) (Short-Term) Visa
Applicants can apply for PR if they:
Have been in Australia for at least 12 months between 1 February 2020 and 14 December 2021; and
Are under 45 years old at the time of application;
Are employed by an employer actively and lawfully operating a business in Australia at the time of application;
Held the Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) (short-term) visa for at least three years in the last four years.
457 Temporary Work Skilled Visa Holders have Extended
An individual has held a Temporary Work Skilled (subclass 457) visa on or after 18 April 2017; or
Had applied 457 visa application on or after 18 April 2017 that was subsequently granted; and
Have been in Australia for at least 12 months between 1 February 2020 and 14 December 2021; and
Your occupation does not have to meet any of the skilled lists available now; and
Have held the 457 and/or 482 visas in the same position with the same sponsor for at least two years in the last three years.
