Supporting International Students - Ensuring Australia Remains a Priority Destination for International Students
A recent joint media release from Minister’s Media Centre at Department of Education, Skills and Employment on 20 July 2020 revealed that the current Australian Government is making a number of changes to student visa arrangements, in light of COVID-10 pandemic, with the intention to maintain Australia as a priority destination for international students.
In summary, Acting Minister for Immigration has announced the following changes:
International students will be able to lodge a further student visa application free of charge if they are unable to complete their studies with their original visa validity due to COVID-19.
The student visa processing center overseas will recommence processing. This means when border re-open, students will already have a visa and be able to make arrangements to travel.
Those who are outside of Australia who are continuing with their studies online due to COVID-19 will be able to use that study period to count towards the Australian study requirement for a post-study work visa subclass 485.
Additional time (in the form of extension) will be given for applicants to provide English language results where COVID-19 has disrupted access to these services.
