All You Need to Know About Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) - Direct Entry Stream

The Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) visa is a significant pathway for skilled workers who wish to live and work permanently in Australia. Especially for the Subclass 186 - Direct Entry stream, which allows employers to nominate overseas workers for permanent residency (PR) without requiring prior employment in Australia.  

 

What is the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) - Direct Entry Stream?

The Direct Entry stream is for individuals who are nominated: 

  • By an Australian employer. 

  • Skilled in an occupation listed on Australia’s relevant skilled occupation list 

Applicants who are granted an ENS (SC 186) can live and work in Australia indefinitely. Primary applicant can include their member of family unit (MoFU) in their application. 

 

What are the eligibility requirements for the Direct Entry stream?

To be eligible for Subclass 186 – Direct Entry stream, applicants must meet these key requirements: 

  • The applicant must be nominated for an occupation on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) 

  • The applicant must have at least 3 years relevant work experience in their nominated occupation. 

  • The applicant must be under 45 years old at the time of application. However, certain age exemptions may apply, if applicants have specific skills or qualifications. 

  • Applicants must demonstrate that they possess the skills and qualifications required for the nominated occupation. This can be done through a skills assessment conducted by the relevant authority. Applicants who are exempt from the skills assessment are also exempt from the work experience requirement. 

  • ENS (Subclass 186) applicants have to meet the English language proficiency

  • Primary and eligible secondary applicants for the ENS Direct Entry stream (SC 186) must also meet the health and character requirements

  • The visa application charge (VAC) for ENS (Subclass 186) Direct Entry stream as of to date are:

    • Primary applicant is AUD 4,770

    • Secondary applicant (above 18 years old) is AUD 2,385 (per applicant)

    • Secondary applicant (under 18 years old) is AUD 1,190 (per applicant)
