Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) - Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream Guide

The Australian Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) visa is a permanent visa for skilled workers who want to live and work in Australia indefinitely. Among the 3 streams under ENS, the Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream is for individuals who have already been working in Australia under a temporary visa and on the pathway to permanent residency (PR).  

What is the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) - Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream? 

The Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream is for individuals who are nominated: 

Additionally, a primary applicant can include member(s) of their family unit (MoFU) in their application. 

What are the Eligibilities for Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream? 

To be eligible for Subclass 186 – TRT stream, applicants must meet these key requirements: 

  • The applicant must be nominated for an occupation on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) 

  • The applicant must hold or have held a TSS or SID (SC 482) visa for at least 2 years before lodging the ENS (SC 186) visa.

  • Applicant must demonstrate that they have worked for the nominating employer in the nominated occupation on a full-time basis for at least 2 years while holding the TSS or SID visa.

  • The applicant must be under 45 years old at the time of application. However, certain age exemptions may apply, if applicants have specific skills or qualifications. 

  • ENS (Subclass 186) (TRT) stream applicants have to meet the English language proficiency

  • Primary and secondary applicants for the ENS – TRT stream (SC 186) must also meet the health and character requirements

  • The visa application charge (VAC) for ENS (Subclass 186) TRT stream is: 

    • Primary applicant is AUD 4,770 

    • Secondary applicant(s) (above 18 years old) is AUD 2,385 (per applicant) 

    • Secondary applicant(s) (under 18 years old) is AUD 1,190 (per applicant)
