Childcare Workers Now on CSOL: Eligible for SID SC482 Visa & Pathways to PR
With the sponsored work visa changes from December 2024, the childcare worker occupation has recently been added to the Core Skill Occupation List (CSOL). This change has created new pathways to Permanent Residency (PR) for Childcare Workers in Australia.
It also means that childcare workers may be eligible to apply for the:
Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) visa – Direct Entry Stream (once they have 3 years of full-time work experience).
What do I need to Apply for SID 482 or ENS 186?
The visa requirements are similar to the previous Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) (SC 482) visa. The minimum requirements applicants must meet are to have:
An approved employer to nominate them
Must meet the Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) salary of AUD 73,150 for Nomination applications lodged on and between 7 December 2024 and 30 June 2025
Skills in Demand (SID) (Subclass 482) Visa
Skills in Demand (SID) Visa (SC 482) is a temporary visa that allows individuals to live and work in Australia for up to 4 years. SID is a replacement for the previous TSS visa, and their visa process and eligibility remain similar. The biggest change that may affect SID applicants is the work experience requirement has been reduced from 2 years to 1 year, which allows more individuals to be eligible to apply for an SID SC482 visa.
What if My Employer Cannot Pay AUD 73,150?
If your employer cannot meet the minimum requirement for your salary, speak to one of our immigration lawyers to find an alternative pathway for your visa.
Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) (Subclass 186) Visa – Direct Entry Stream
The ENS visa is a permanent visa that allows individuals to live in Australia permanently and have work and study rights. The previous Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) and Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) have been replaced by CSOL. Hence, childcare workers may be eligible to apply for ENS sc186 direct entry if they meet the visa requirements, i.e. 3 years of full-time work experience.
