India Is Now On the List for Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) | Latest Update

In a landmark move recently, the Australian Government officially included India in its Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) program, effective 16 September 2024. This change, as outlined in the Migration (Arrangements for Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) Visa Applications) (India) Amendment Instrument (LIN 24/059), opens new doors for young Indians to explore life in Australia.

What Does This Mean for Indian Applicants?

Indian passport holders can now apply for the Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) visa, marking a significant shift in Australia’s visa policies. Here’s a breakdown of what applicants should be aware of:

  • Eligibility: Indian citizens with valid passports can now apply, providing a new pathway for work and travel in Australia.

  • Simplified Process: Applicants will no longer need to provide proof of support from their government, streamlining the application process.

  • Education Requirements: Indian applicants must meet the educational standards outlined in the visa regulations. While specific details vary, they align with the requirements for applicants from other eligible countries.

Pre-Application Process for Indian Applicants

The pre-application process has also been revised with the Migration (Subclass 462 (Work and Holiday) Visa Pre-Application Process) Determination (LIN 24/060), which applies to India, China, and Vietnam.

  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old

  • Ballot System: During specific registration periods, applicants from India, China, and Vietnam will be selected randomly.

  • Registration Expiry: If applicants aren’t selected by turning 31, their registration will expire.
