Can I Include My Family to My TSS Subclass 482 Visa Application?
The Temporary Skill Shortage visa (Subclass 482), allows skilled individuals to live and work in Australia to address the country's skill shortages. Applicants can also include certain family members in their visa applications, enabling them to stay in Australia for the duration of the visa. This guide explains who you can include and how to add them to your TSS 482 visa.
Who can I Include in My TSS (SC 482) Visa?
Only a “Member of the Family Unit” (MoFU) is eligible to be included in a Temporary Skill Shortage visa application. MoFU typically consists of:
a spouse or de facto partner; and
certain dependent children.
*Note that MoFU doesn’t include your parents or your siblings.
All family members must meet specific eligibility criteria. You must declare all MoFU members in your visa application, even if they don’t intend to travel with you. If a family member wants to join you later, they can apply for a "subsequent entrant" visa. “subsequent entrant” SC 482 visa application.
Can I Include My Family Members in the Initial Subclass 482 Visa Application?
You can include family members in your initial visa application by providing proof of your relationship. This can include documents such as:
For a spouse or de facto partner: a marriage certificate or evidence of a de facto relationship (e.g., proof of shared household, finances, and social life)
For dependent children: birth certificates or legal adoption documents
Can I add my family members after I lodge my Sponsored Work SC 482 visa?
If your circumstances change after lodging your visa (e.g., a child is born or your spouse decides to join you), you may still add family members. The process depends on whether your visa is still being processed or has already been granted.
Adding family members before the TSS (Subclass 482) visa grant
The only family member you can add after lodging but before approval is a newborn child. In this case, the child is considered to have applied for the visa at birth, and their application is combined with yours. Notify the Department of Home Affairs by submitting:
A colour scan of the birth certificate
A letter from your employer confirming sponsorship obligations
Once available, provide a copy of the child’s passport (in colour) for the Department to issue the visa grant.
Adding family members after the TSS (Subclass 482) visa grant
After your visa is approved, family members can still join through a "subsequent entrant" visa application. If they were declared in the original application or became eligible afterwards, you’ll need to prove your relationship. If granted, their visa will have the same validity as yours.
